Funding Education for the Poorest
We currently provide direct scholarships to 24, carefully-selected students from the neediest families of the Rasuwa district in Nepal. This number is growing but still small enough for us to keep in individual touch with each student and their progress. Trustees and volunteers of the Dolma Development Fund visit the schools at least once a year to meet with the students. The scholarships are guaranteed for at least ‘O’ Level/GCSE level, with further education depending upon performance and funds.
Our funding comes from individual donors who sponsor children. Many of those donors have been on one of our Dolma Ecotourism adventures to the region and have seen for themselves the difference an education makes. Our donors receive school report cards, photos and other information about their students and are encouraged to keep in direct contact. Other educational funds are provided from the reinvested profits of our impact investments.
A quality, private and culturally-sensitive education in Rasuwa district costs around £40/$65 per month and transforms the prospects for the students and their families who are among the world’s poorest communities. If you are interested in participating in this programme, please drop us a note to arrange a phone call or meeting so we can inform you of the impacts, responsibilities and joy of supporting education through the Dolma Development Fund.
Volunteer Teachers
We can also host voluntary teachers who would like to spend a term or more teaching in a Nepali school. Our partner, the Highland Boarding School in Dhunche, has hosted many volunteers and provides full board and a unique window into the challenges and opportunities of providing quality education in such a remote region. For the volunteers, it is a life-changing experience. For the children, it gives them interaction with the friendly face of the global world. If you would like to know more, please drop us a note and arrange for a meeting or call.
